MTB Day Ride - Sunday 21st Feb
Posted on: 07/02/2010 08:54 PM
As part of my Xmas present my wife is giving me one Sunday a month to do whatever I want - no responsibility for kids or dog. I am planning to use this to do some day rides and would like to know if anyone would fancy joining me. Nothing extreme but a chance to explore some of the South East's best routes ( happy to take suggestions.) starting at a reasonable time ( say 8-00 or 9-00 ) with a pub lunch prefered and finish around 5 ish ; starting and finishing at the shop - either cycling from the shop or using my car ( can offer lift and rack for upto 4 others. ) to get to a starting point.
Please let me know if you would be interested and if you have any suggestions for routes
First date is Feb 21st

I'm not sure if I could manage 9 to 5 cycling but I would like to do mtb - ideally with some sprinting if anyone's up for that.
But I'm up for any sunday mtb ride.
For a simple route idea - take the blackness lane track to cycle route 21 down to woldingham and do that loop (I haven't done this before though, so please don't rely on me for directions, or that it even works!).
A useful map can be found here ,
Chris.

I have been doing a little more research and have found a possible route starting at Westcott. It is a 24.5 mile loop with 1000 metres of climbing. Obviously it will mean a car journey to start off but I can offer lifts for riders and bikes to 4 others. I would estimate it will take an hour to drive down and if we ride for 4/5 hours we should be back at the shop late afternoon allowing for tea and cake
The route is taken from the Rough Ride Guide to the South East - Route 21 I can bring extra copies of the map
Would that work for you ?

that would be fantastic, suggest we meet at the shop at 9-00 if that is OK for everyone , I will have the Espace so can carry five bikes and riders and we take it from there. I am easy on the time so happy to go were ever - which one is your favourite ? MAy be a route where we could say ride for three hours - lunch - and ride of a couple more
So far we have
Howard
Douglas
Chris/Arrow
Sparky
So room in my car for one more

I'm up for this to. Any ideas as to where your going yet. I don't need transport if that make it easier!
Cheers

What about cathing an early train to Brighton, or, somewhere on the coast and riding back, offroad obviously???

I like the idea of riding back from Brighton later in the year, when we have more light - also the idea of an early train doesn't appeal. I would prefer to stick to 9-00 at the shop this time

I'd like to wait for faster ground for the brighton ride - maybe march/april time?
Has anyone been around the Hadleigh Castle area? I think this is supposed to be place where mtb racing will be in 2012.
Maybe Mark can best suggest a route for the 21st as he knows the routes?
Chris.

So far we have
Howard
Douglas
Chris/Arrow
Sparky
Kevsy
and
MikeyHP with his own transport - Mike do you have space for anyone else ?
Suggest we meet at the shop at 9-00 on Sunday and we decide on our route then.

I'll probably bring Doug, so that'll free up space in your people carrier. Has a route been decided yet?

Sorry to hear it, as the weather looks fantastic.
Depending on our final number I am happy to take my Espace to minimise our carbon footprint

Sorry I missed you, I was there till 9-15 so we must have just missed each other. Had a chat with the roadies and waved them off into the pouring rain. Then set off for Leith Hill. Had a couple of hours exploring the single track around LH and then headed home ( with a knacker front derailier , bike is now with Bigfoot ( hopefully sorted for next weekend.).) - the whole time I saw ten minutes of sun.
I will post again when I am heading out.
