Ride Levels
We grade our rides from 1 to 5 to give an indication of the level of difficulty, we also run family rides. On all Bigfoot Cycle Club rides no-one gets left behind. If necessary we will stop and regroup at suitable points. We also give an indication of when we expect to return.

  1. Easy paced ride - suitable for all levels including beginners. Stops to regroup, for punctures and refreshments and to admire the view. Road rides will cover approximately 15-20 miles in 2 hours.
  2. Easy to medium paced ride - suitable for all levels, no major difficulties in terrain or hills. Stops to regroup, for punctures, refreshments and to admire the view. Road rides will cover approximately 35+ miles in 2.5/3 hours at 13-14 mph avr.
  3. Medium paced ride - suitable for regular riders. Some technical sections and/or hills. Stops to regroup, for punctures and refreshments. Typical total ascent for a road ride is 3000ft. Road rides over 45 miles at 14-15.5mph avr.
  4. Medium to fast paced ride - suitable for regular riders and training. Technical sections and/or hills. Stops to regroup and for punctures. Road rides over 50 miles at approximately 16-17mph avr.
  5. Fast paced ride - suitable for regular, fitter riders who race or are training for Sportives. Sessions will be focussed on different types of training throughout the year to build base fitness and hill climbing strength. Stops to regroup and for punctures. Road rides over 65 miles at 17.5mph avr or more depending on terrain.

Off Road Off road rides roughly follow the grading and are advertised in the forums. Please refer to the relevant comments in the forum post to get a better understand of the level of ability required.

We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable time on our rides, so we strongly urge you to read this advice and please have a look at our ride rules.

Non-members are welcome on all our rides but if you take part in more than three rides we would like you formally to join. Please check out the rules (see link below). If you aren't sure what ride is suitable for you please email Bigfoot Cycle Club or call the shop on 020 8462 5004.

Road ride SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 18TH LEVEL 2, 3 & 4 ROAD RIDES Note earlier start: 8am to organise groups. Saturday September 18th sees a departure from our regular format for road rides. The Bigfoot Late Summer 'Sporteef' is designed for ALL riders as a whole club on-road event. Last year 50 riders took part. There'll be three separate routes, each of which goes eastwards from Hayes into the Darenth Valley, coming together for an intermediate stop at the Speedgate Cafe by Brands Hatch. All groups should get to the cafe at around 10:30am. We’ll then return to Hayes on another scenic route. We will get back a little later than usual, so do please plan your diaries accordingly. We estimate a return time for Level 2 at 1:00pm latest, allowing for a generous amount of time at the Speedgate.
The more people who can make it, the better the buzz for us all!
Level 2: Level 2 route 17 miles Hayes-Speedgate. 9-11mph average. Leader: tba
Level 3: Level 3 route 29 miles" Hayes-Speedgate. Average 14-15mph. Leader: tba
Level 4:Level 4 route 35 miles Hayes-Speedgate. Average 16-17mph. Leader: tba

Return Route for all: Return route 18 miles

SUNDAY 19th SEPTEMBER – THE RAMBLERS REST RIDE (CHISLEHURST) – LEVEL 1 AND FAMILY RIDES – TWO RIDES IN ONE!

What: Virtually all off road rides, some sections of quiet roads
Family Ride Option – a short part off road and part quite road ride in the Hayes countryside. Up to 6 miles (exact length to suit the kids who come along), no hills, suitable for all ages, reaching Jubilee Country Park, not going as far as Chislehurst.
Level 1 Ride Option – part off road and part quite road ride to Chislehurst and back, including a ride in Petts Wood, about 14 miles (starts riding with the Family Ride). Stopping at the Ramblers Rest pub, Chislehurst. This option will include carrying bikes over three railway foot bridges, we can all lend a hand to help here (the shorter family ride option turns before these bridges).

Meet: Meet at the Bigfoot Bike shop 50 Hayes Street, Bromley, Kent, BR2 7LD (www.bigfootbikes.com) at 10.45am for 11am start for both rides. Level 1 Ride returning around 2-30. Ride will keep together as one group, then split in to two groups if some are on the shorter Family Ride.

Bring: helmet, spare inner tube, drink, snack and some money if you want drink and crisps at the pub or at the café back in Hayes.

Note: Ride will keep together as one group. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. For full “ride rules” please visit the Bigfoot Bike Club website at www.bigfootbikeclub.org

More Information: If you have any questions or want a route map please email adam@bigfootbikeclub.org . If you can email to say you are coming, that would help us have an idea of numbers, but everyone is welcome whether sending an email or not

Leader: Adam. Adam will lead both rides at the start. He will then keep with the Level 1 Ride and will provide map for those on the Family Ride – which anyway will be retracing it’s route, so no one will get lost!
